What documents do I need to prepare before coming to Hong Kong?
- Student Visa: Submit the required documents to the university, and the university will process the application on your behalf.
- Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao (Exit-Entry Permit): After receiving your visa, apply for a "Stay" endorsement at the Exit-Entry Administration Office in your place of household registration.
How do I apply for a Hong Kong Identity Card after arriving?
- Keep the landing slip issued upon your first entry
- Hong Kong Identity Card: Must be applied for within 30 days of arrival.
- Application Steps:
- Make an appointment: Use the official Hong Kong Immigration Department app or the Hong Kong Government “Online Appointment Booking for Identity Cards Application (Registration of Persons Offices)” website (www.gov.hk/icbooking)
- Select a suitable time and location.
- Prepare the required materials: Original entry documents, student visa, landing slip, appointment confirmation, etc.
- Attend the appointment: Arrive on time, present your documents to obtain a queue number, provide fingerprints and have your photo taken, wait for your number to be called again, and receive a receipt.
- Wait for notification to collect your identity card.
Accommodation Guide
Residence Hall Information
- Application Period and Method: The application for on-campus accommodation for current students is divided into the first and second semesters, which open in late May and late November each year, respectively. Accommodation information can be found on the website of the Hall Management Unit, and the office will also send out relevant information to all students via email.
- Facilities Provided: Each room is furnished with basic furniture, including a bed (mattress provided only), desk, chair, wardrobe, air conditioner, and computer network socket. Shared facilities on each floor include a refrigerator, washroom, communal bathroom, and pantry. The lounge/common area is also equipped with tables, chairs, and sofas.
- Room Types: Most undergraduate dormitory rooms are shared (Twin Room, Triple Room, Quadruple Room and Budget Room), with Twin Room and Quadruple Room being the most common. A limited number of Single Room are also available for application.
- Bed Size: The mattress size is 190 cm x 90 cm.
- Hall Fee The monthly hall fee for shared rooms ranges from approximately HKD $1,300 to $2,550. The length of stay and hall fee are calculated on a semester basis.
